A former Wells Fargo employee in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been indicted on charges that he stole about $88,000 from a bank cash vault, according to the US Department of Justice and local reports. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
According to the Daily Mail, the man, identified as Arlando, was indicted on 34 counts, including financial institution fraud, theft, embezzlement, misapplication, making false entries and money laundering.
Court documents say he worked at a Wells Fargo branch in Charlotte starting in April 2019 and had access to the vault as part of his job. Cash from customer deposits was allegedly taken on 18 different occasions. The indictment says the thefts began about two months into his time at the bank with relatively small amounts and grew larger, ending with a one time theft of $13,450 in mid July.
The indictment also alleges he used part of the money to buy a 2019 Mercedes Benz and falsified bank statements to get a car loan. A statement from the Department of Justice says he reportedly used the money for personal expenses and a large cash down payment on a luxury car.
Prosecutors say that between July and August 2019, he posted photos on Facebook and Instagram showing large stacks of $100 bills.
Arlando was arrested by FBI agents in San Diego last week and is due in court on December 17. Baller Alert did not find a public response from him at the time of publication.
