According to Newsweek, 34-year-old Jessie Gibson kicked in his grandfather’s home door around 8 am on Thursday. After gaining entry, he reportedly assaulted his grandfather and demanded money.
The grandfather was able to defend himself with his gun and shot the suspect. At the time of the robbery, the victim didn’t know the intruder was his grandson.
Family members told WBTV News that the grandfather learned that the suspect was his grandson after receiving treatment for his injuries.
Gibson fled the scene on foot. However, authorities found him at the Lowman’s Motor Court, a nearby motel where he had been staying.
He suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times. It was his girlfriend who called 911 for help.
The victim suffered facial and bodily injuries but was able to leave the hospital that afternoon.
The grandson has been listed in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
