A Minneapolis man convicted of trying to burn down a high school during the Black Lives Matter riots for George Floyd has been given five years probation.

On Thursday, Mohamed Hussein Abdi, 20, was also ordered to pay $34,000 to Gordon Parks High School in St. Paul in restitution fees by a U.S. District Court in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The sentencing comes after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson, court documents obtained by Fox News show.

Court documents also revealed that the sentence was “imposed pursuant to the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984.”

Fox News reported that Judge David S. Doty presided over the case but did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Abdi was arrested in June 2020. His arrest came a month after he went inside the high school through a broken glass door amid the Floyd riot. He was captured l on security footage pouring liquid onto the floor and into a trashcan. He then was seen taking a liquid-soaked garment and setting it on fire before placing it into the trash can.

Officials estimated that George Floyd-related riots across the country had destroyed $1 billion worth of property.

More than 1,500 places of business in the Minneapolis St. Paul area were either damaged or destroyed amid the riots, which totaled roughly $500 million in damages.
