Manager At A Chick-Fil-A Saved A COVID-19 Vaccination Drive-Thru

A South Carolina town needed assistance when a drive-thru coronavirus vaccine clinic got backed up-, so the mayor called a professional for help: a Chick-fil-A manager.

According to CNN, Jerry Walkowiak, who is the manager of a nearby Chick-fil-A, came to the rescue after local hospitals in Mount Pleasant opened the clinic on January 22 for eligible residents to get their first shots of the vaccine, and their computer system went down.

The registration system failed shortly after they started, causing hundreds of anxious people in their cars to wait in heavy traffic.

“When I heard about it, I called Jerry and asked if he would come help us out,” Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie told the news outlet. “After he looked it over, he said, ‘There’s your problem right there. It’s backed up because you have one person checking people in.’ Then he showed us how to do it right.”

Haynie took Walkowiak’s advice and added more volunteers. Shortly thereafter, the gridlock traffic was transformed into a smooth operation, which reduced the hours of long wait time for the vaccine to a mere 15 minutes.
