Mary J. Blige will bring her hit record “Real Love” to television screens everywhere as a Lifetime original film.

The Grammy-award-winning singer has signed on to executive produce the film, named after the hit record, released in 1992. The single was certified gold two months after and was Blige’s first record to hit the top 10.

“My passions for acting and music now include developing diverse stories with music as the backdrop. I am grateful to Lifetime for their partnership in the story of Real Love, “the 51-year-old said in a statement.

Blige, who is fresh off of her stellar Super Bowl performance, will be joined by fellow producers Ashaunna Ayars and Nicole Jackson to bring the romantic drama alive.

The movie will follow lead character Kendra as she embarks on her journey to college in New York. However, her plans to focus solely on school will be derailed when Kendra meets her film class partner Ben. As the two begin a whirlwind love affair, many obstacles will test their love, including her parents’ disapproval in this coming-of-age story written by Sonja Warfield and Rachel Ingram.

This is not Blige’s first time putting on her executive producer hat. She previously executive produced her 2021 critically acclaimed documentary “Mary J. Blige’s My Life.” She also worked closely with Lifetime’s 2020 film “The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel.”
