Maryland High School Guidance Counselor Arrested on Rape & Child Pornography Charges

James M. Bennett High school in Maryland is the latest school in news headlines dealing with administrative misconduct.

Allen Edward Mitchell played a pertinent role as a guidance counselor for the Wicomico County school. While things may have seemed normal in the halls, Mitchell’s credibility as a trusted figure in the area would soon be challenged by troubling accusations.

The law caught up with him when Mitchell was arrested on January 11th for 15 different charges, according to the Wicomico Child Advocacy Center. In fact, some of the counts were “second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offenses, perverted practices, and soliciting child pornography.”

According to the report, the 32-year-old used social media apps to get in contact with minors. However, the communications have since ceased after the man was taken into custody and held without bond “due to the serious nature of the allegations.”

Wicomico County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Donna Hanlin, spoke with “Delmarva Now” to make sure she announced the institute’s full support and cooperation with law enforcement.

“Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff.”
