A Maryland man was arrested after police say he fired a shotgun at a pickup truck whose occupants had honked at him while he put up a Black Lives Matter sign in his front yard.
Baltimore County police arrested Douglas, 50, on charges that include assault, reckless endangerment and a felony firearm count, CBS News reported. The incident happened on a Saturday in Kingsville, Maryland.
Neal and his son told CBS Baltimore they honked their horn at Douglas, their neighbor, from their truck, which carried a Trump sign. “He reached down. He had a shotgun right there, pulled it out and pointed it right at…and we were in disbelief. Next thing we heard was a shotgun blast,” Neal told the station.
No one was hurt, and no details were released about damage to the truck. Police say they found a 12 gauge shotgun on Douglas’s property. Neal said he had never met or seen Douglas and that the honking was not meant to cause harm. He added that he does not want his neighbor punished.
Another neighbor, who asked to be identified only as Todd, said he heard the shot. He told CBS Baltimore he understands Douglas’s frustration because his own political signs have been stolen, but he does not agree with the shooting. “Hopefully, this division in the country can get better because it’s not good,” Todd said.
Baller Alert could not find a public statement from Douglas at the time of this report. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
