A Maryland police officer has been arrested and charged with rape, accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a traffic stop.
According to CNN and statements from the Prince George’s County Police Department, Officer First Class Ryan Macklin, 29, a six year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, faces five charges: first degree rape, second degree rape, perverted practice, second degree assault and fourth degree sex offense.
CNN reported that the stop happened around 1 a.m. on a Thursday on University Boulevard in Langley Park. The woman told investigators that in a nearby parking lot, the officer, who was on duty and in uniform, got into her car and ordered her to perform a sexual act. She reported the incident several hours later, and the officer was suspended without pay, according to CNN.
Police Chief Hank Stawinski called the charges “highly troubling” and said there may be additional people affected by the officer’s conduct. The department’s Special Investigation Response Team is leading the investigation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, and anyone with information was asked to come forward.
These are allegations, and Macklin has not been convicted. Baller Alert could not find a public response from him at the time of this report.
