Consumers Beware: Massive Blueberry Recall Linked to Potentially Deadly Bacteria as FDA Issues Its Highest Warning

A major blueberry recall is raising alarms nationwide after federal officials flagged nearly 60,000 pounds of frozen product for possible Listeria contamination.

According to an enforcement report released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall, numbered H-0522-2026, involves 55,689 pounds of individually quick frozen blueberries produced by Oregon Potato Company LLC, which operates as Willamette Valley Fruit Company in Salem, Oregon.

The company voluntarily initiated the recall on February 12, 2026. On February 24, the FDA classified the action as a Class I recall, the agency’s highest risk level. A Class I recall means there is a reasonable probability that use of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

The blueberries were packaged in 30-pound corrugated cases lined with polyethylene and in 1,400-pound totes. Distribution reached Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin, along with Canada. The product was not sold directly to consumers at retail stores.

Lot codes for the 30-pound cases include 2055 B2, 2065 B1, and 2065 B3, with expiration dates between July 23 and July 24, 2027. The 1,400-pound totes are marked with lot codes 3305 A1 and 3305 B1 and carry expiration dates of Nov. 25, 2027.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Pregnant individuals face higher risks, including miscarriage or stillbirth.
