Mathew Knowles Weighs Legal Options After Viral Interview Walkout -- Journalist Now Shares His Side [Video]

Mathew Knowles is now exploring legal action after a leaked television interview moment spread online and reignited debate about the legacy behind Destiny’s Child.

The father of Beyoncé and Solange said he is “evaluating all legal remedies” after footage surfaced showing him abruptly ending an interview with journalist Kendis Gibson of PIX11. The previously unaired clip, first shared by Page Six, captured a tense exchange after Gibson asked about the role of Knowles’ ex-wife, Tina Knowles, in shaping the group’s early image.

During the interview, Gibson told Mathew both parents had “earned their flowers” for the group’s success.

“I said the same thing to Ms. Tina Knowles. You guys put in the work, and obviously the talent was there,” Gibson said.

Mathew responded by questioning the remark.

“What work did she put in?” he asked.

Gibson initially pointed to Tina’s styling contributions, noting she handled “the hair, the clothes.” Mathew agreed, replying, “You’re absolutely right. The styling, the imaging.” But when Gibson added that Destiny’s Child “was a joint effort,” Mathew abruptly stood up.

“We’ll stop now,” he said.

The moment did not appear in the full interview that aired January 30, but the leaked clip quickly circulated across social media.  “The Breakfast Club” host  Loren Lorosa later shared additional details after speaking directly with Gibson. In a post on Twitter, Lorosa wrote that Gibson told her he was “completely caught off guard when Mr. Knowles ended the interview.” She also asked whether PIX11 had been instructed not to ask questions about Tina Knowles. According to Lorosa’s post, Gibson said they were not given any such restriction.

Lorosa also reported that Mathew allegedly asked the PIX11 team to remove the abrupt exit from the original interview broadcast. The January 30 segment that aired did not include the moment where Knowles walked out.

I spoke to Kendis Gibson of @PIX11News This morning to get more details on the clip of Mr. Matthew Knowles walking out of their interview after it was brought up that Ms. Tina Knowles’s work also contributed to Destiny Child’s success.

Mathew addressed the controversy in a follow-up interview with Page Six, saying the viral clip misrepresented his intent and the context of his comments.

“My words were intended as a question,” he said, adding that Gibson had “diminished” Tina’s contributions.

“Tina Knowles did the styling, built the image for Destiny’s Child. Wouldn’t you agree that’s way more than saying someone just did the hair?”

He also pushed back on the narrative that there is tension between him and his former wife.

“People try to bait us all the time to be against each other,” Knowles said. “There was a complete misrepresentation here, and I’m evaluating all legal remedies at this time.”
