Matt Barnes is speaking out about his reported run in with former Lakers teammate Derek Fisher, who is now head coach of the New York Knicks.
Reports say the two had a physical altercation in October connected to a personal matter involving Barnes’s estranged wife, Gloria. Barnes told Los Angeles Times writer Ben Bolch that the two were “two grown men who should have handled two grown men’s business.” He said Fisher chose to go to the police and the NBA instead, and that now the story is everywhere.
Barnes also said the NBA is still looking into the situation, which he described as an ongoing investigation. He suggested the New York Post’s reporting on the story was an effort to make him look like the bad guy.
Fisher has said previously that private matters are personal and private, and that the situation would not distract from the Knicks’ goals. Neither the NBA nor the Knicks were quoted in the report.
