A plant-based burger that McDonald’s developed with vegan meat supplier Beyond Meat Inc will be available in around 600 U.S. McDonald’s stores starting Feb. 14.
As long as supplies last, Mickey D’s restaurants in San Francisco, California and Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas, will offer the so-called “McPlant” burger in order to help them better understand customer demand.
Customers in the two test markets will be able to buy McPlant burgers made from peas, rice, and potatoes and topped with mayonnaise and cheese for a limited time.
In premarket trading, shares of Beyond Meat were up 2%. In the last year, the stock has lost 54% of its value, bringing its market capitalization to $4.08 billion. As for McDonald’s, their shares were up less than 1%. During that period, the burger chain’s shares has risen 19 %, giving it a market worth of $197 billion.
