Memphis Bleek isn’t buying into the drama coming from his former Roc-A-Fella affiliate. After Oschino Vasquez dragged Jay-Z for sitting down with GQ instead of appearing on Bleek’s podcast, the rapper stepped in to set the record straight.
Rather than playing into the idea that he was overlooked, Bleek shutdown the comparison entirely. He took to Instagram to question why anyone would even put a global media powerhouse in the same category as an independent platform.
“GQ vs Podcast is really a conversation? Journalism vs Homie talking shit we serious out here? All the beggers out there whip and you see why,” Bleek wrote.
The exchange highlights a major divide in how both artists view their industry standing. While Oschino frames Jay-Z’s moves as a betrayal of street loyalty, Bleek is making it clear that his platform stands on its own merit without needing favors. By labeling his critics as “beggars,” he signaled that his relationship with Hov doesn’t need a public transaction to be valid.
For Bleek, a cover story with a global publication serves a specific purpose that a casual podcast session simply doesn’t match. He seems more focused on building his brand than counting the favors he thinks he’s owed.
While the internet might still be waiting for that legendary sit-down, Bleek is letting everyone know that if it happens, it won’t be because he begged for the seat.
