The Met Gala 2026 is already taking over the fashion world after organizers confirmed that next year’s theme will be “Costume Art.” Andrew Bolton and Anna Wintour made the announcement during a November press briefing, revealing a concept that blends fashion, art history, and human anatomy.
The theme also marks the opening of the new Condé M. Nast Galleries, a permanent 12,000-square-foot expansion inside the museum. The space will debut with an exhibition pairing garments with paintings, sculptures, and photography to highlight how clothing and the body have interacted through different eras.

Bolton shared that the exhibition will be divided into three sections. One will explore bodies commonly shown in art. Another will highlight bodies that have been historically overlooked. The final section will examine the anatomical body.
He also revealed that mirrored mannequins and cast figures will be used to encourage visitors to “reflect on the lived experience” represented in the displays, a major step toward blending fine art curation with immersive fashion presentation.
Celebrities Expected to Attend
The gala returns Monday, May 4, following its tradition of celebrating the first Monday in May. Vogue will stream the carpet at 4:30 PM EST, with full coverage beginning at 6 PM.
Saint Laurent has been named the lead fashion sponsor. As a result, all eyes are on Zoë Kravitz, Hailey Bieber, Austin Butler, and Rosé of BLACKPINK, who are expected to attend and may serve as co-chairs.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are the only officially confirmed guests so far due to their ongoing support of the Costume Institute.
Early Dress Code Predictions
Although the official dress code has not yet been released, early clues point toward a celebration of the body as art; possibly inspired by Charles James, Renata Buzzo, and historical works by artists like Albrecht Dürer.
