Legendary producer Metro Boomin has secured a massive deal to sell part of his music catalog for $70 million.

Having begun his producing career at age 16, the now 29-year-old has produced for some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Drake, 21 Savage, Yo Gotti, Gunna, Future, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Migos, Gucci Mane, Chris Brown, Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Wiz Khalifa, Jeezy, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, and countless others. His latest compilation album, Heroes & Villains, debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 when it was released on December 2nd, 2022. With numerous hits throughout his career, Metro has decided to part ways with some of his catalog, which Shamrock Capital acquired.

The name Shamrock may ring a bell, as they were the company at the center of the Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun controversy. Braun’s Ithaca Holdings sold the master recordings of Swift’s first six albums to Shamrock. Now, the company is expanding its reach, reporting in February that it’d raised $600 million to launch Shamrock Capital Content Fund III, which looks to purchase films, music, video games, and more.

Metro has not publicly commented on the deal but has announced he is already at work on his new album. Both he and Future have teased a new collab album, set to release sometime this year. This is partially the reason why he did not appear on Future’s 2022 I NEVER LIKED YOU” album. According to the hitmaker, saving their joint records for their forthcoming project made more sense.
