Miami Beach Says It’s Still “Broken Up” With Spring Break as BLK Hits Back With a Safe Space for Black Travelers

Miami Beach’s Spring Break has transformed in recent years, with one group of tourists feeling particularly axed out. This year, however, one company is committed to creating a safe space.

After rocky Spring Break seasons in 2021, 2022, and 2023—the latter seeing two fatal shootings on Miami Beach—the city began cracking down with curfews, $100 parking rates for nonresidents, license plate readers, early beach closures, and more. While the city maintained that these measures were meant to protect the public, Black Spring Breakers felt the restrictions disproportionately targeted them.

In 2021, Daniella Pierre, president of the Miami chapter of the NAACP, said the heavy policing wasn’t a “hospitable approach,” with Black Spring Breakers echoing the sentiment. While Miami Beach has loosened some restrictions, in February 2026, Miami Beach City Manager Eric Carpenter stated that the city is “still very much broken up with spring break.” That is where BLK entered the chat.

The dating app, which is geared toward people of color making connections, has launched its inaugural “BLKHouse.” The concept brings to life a one-stop shop experience for young Black people looking to relax this Spring Break. From Monday, March 9, through Tuesday, March 10, BLK will transform The Clevelander into a fully curated activation celebrating Black joy, connection, and culture, where attendees can enjoy the vibes without the risk of being racially profiled.

In addition to building community, BLKHouse will include an appearance from G Herbo, who will host the Spring Break SZN Kick Off Party on Monday night. Famed streamers Zoe Spencer and Brooklyn Frost will take over Tuesday with trap pilates, Do It For The Plot: The Game Show, the Spring Break SZN Pool Party, and the Campus Crush Party.

“We see exactly what’s happening in Miami right now. When the city tries to shut us out or police our joy, we don’t just pack up – we build our OWN house. Spring Break is a rite of passage for Black college students and travelers who deserve to enjoy their vacation unbothered and unapologetically,” said Amber Cooper, Head of Brand of BLK. “The BLKHouse is our answer to that. We wanted to ensure our youth have a space that is entirely theirs – a free, safe space to simply breathe, have fun, and connect without anyone hovering over them. Leave your semester’s worries at the door and come ready to let loose, because I promise you, a time will most definitely be had!”

In true BLK fashion, the app is removing barriers to entry so the community can fully enjoy the experience. Attendees simply need to show their BLK profile to receive free entry, plus complimentary food and drinks.
