A peaceful shopping trip turned violent at a Walmart in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, where 11 people were stabbed in what officials say was an unprovoked attack.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 42-year-old man entered the store around 4:45 PM and began attacking people with a folding knife. A deputy responded quickly, and with help from bystanders, detained the suspect and assisted the injured.
Munson Healthcare reported all 11 victims were taken to its regional hospital. Six are in critical condition, and five are listed as serious.
Authorities confirmed the suspect is a Michigan resident. “Violence like this is unacceptable,” Walmart said. “Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we’re thankful for the swift action of law enforcement and emergency personnel.”
The FBI is now part of the investigation.
