Mike Tyson recently opened up about the first time he tripped on toad venom, admitting he got a glimpse into the afterlife.
“I ‘died’ during my first trip,” the former heavyweight boxer said. He spoke with the New York Post in Miami at Wonderland, a conference dedicated to psychedelics, microdosing, and medicine.
“In my trips, I’ve seen that death is beautiful,” he said of the experience. “Life and death both have to be beautiful, but death has a bad rep. The toad has taught me that I’m not going to be here forever. There’s an expiration date.”
The 55-year-old says he first tried the toad venom four years ago on a dare. The venom he’s referring to is Bufo alvarius, a Mexico amphibian otherwise known as the Sonoran Desert Toad. When he first tried it, she said he was at a low point in his life.
He’s now tripped off toad 53 times. He attributes the experience of getting him back to a better place in life. Tyson dropped 100 pounds, got back into boxing, and reconnected with his family.
He has since become an advocate for psychedelics and boasts a whole nursery of the toads on his Southern California ranch.
“I’m fighting for psychedelics to become medicine you can buy over the counter,” he told the outlet. “I’m not finished. I want to do more. I want to be the best I can be in this field.”
