A new book from Mike Tyson’s longtime friend and former manager is getting plenty of attention. Rory Holloway’s Taming the Beast: The Untold Story of Mike Tyson shares his memories of life around the former heavyweight champ, and an excerpt published by Page Six has people talking.
According to that excerpt, Holloway writes that Tyson once confronted Michael Jordan at a dinner over actress Robin Givens, who Tyson was once married to. Holloway says Tyson had been drinking and that he asked the server to water the drinks down because he could see where the night was headed. In Holloway’s telling, Tyson asked Jordan directly about Givens, Jordan looked uncomfortable and wanted to leave, and Tyson then turned his frustration toward NFL coach Mike Ditka. Holloway also writes that promoter Don King tried to change the subject while he and another friend tried to calm Tyson down.
The book also recounts Holloway’s memory of Tyson meeting model Naomi Campbell at a party hosted by Russell Simmons, and says the two hit it off right away.
Keep in mind that all of this is Holloway’s recollection, as reported by Page Six. The excerpt coverage did not include a response from Jordan, Campbell or Givens at the time.
Whatever you think of the stories, tell all books like this one always get people talking, and this one is already doing its job.
