Brittany Phillips, a “successful model, aspiring student, and loving mother,” life was cut short last Saturday when she tragically died after being run over by a car operated by her youngest child’s father.

On the night of Nov.21, authorities were called to settle a “domestic dispute” on Riviera Road. Upon arrival, they found Phillips struck.

“That was the mother of his child that he ran over,” close friend Rachel Phelps told WCBI, referring to the vehicle operator, James Heath Kitchens, 30.

Described as “truly an angel and one of the best friends any human can have,” Phillips is remembered as being more than a model.

“Brittany was the kind of person that once you had just one conversation with her,” Phillips’ friend, Angel Boatright, told the outlet. “You realized she just wasn’t all looks. … She had so many of her own opinions. She would do anything to improve anybody’s situation or anything they were going through.”

Many are mourning the loss of the 26-year-old and have been sharing their condolences on Phillip’s Facebook page.

“My heart is broken. I will miss you brit,” one friend wrote.

Phillps and Kitchens, who share a 10-month-old baby, apparently had an abusive past that many people were aware of.  Phelps told WCBI that “there are so many people that know what she’s been going through for a long time and we just want justice for her and her babies because he took their mother from them.”

Kitchens, a former Tupelo, Mississippi police officer, was charged with manslaughter but has since been let out of jail after posting a $25,000 bond.

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist with funeral costs and the raising of her daughters.

“Brittany was an amazing mother, her children were her world,” the fundraiser says, reported by People.  “These donations will help provide these two babies their best future going forward.”
