R. Kelly is facing a separate legal fight over an alleged affair. A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy who is suing the singer says he plans to question him under oath.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kenny Bryant intends to depose Kelly as part of a lawsuit he filed last year. Bryant alleges that Kelly had an affair with his wife, Asia, and ruined his marriage. Mississippi is one of the few states that lets a person sue over interference with a marriage. The documents say the deposition would take place at Bryant’s lawyer’s office in Mississippi and “continue day to day until completed.”
The Blast reports that Bryant married Asia in July of 2012, after she and Kelly had ended an earlier relationship. Bryant claims the marriage began to suffer when Kelly reentered her life a few months later, and that she attended one of Kelly’s concerts in October and the two rekindled a romance. He alleges the affair lasted about five years.
Bryant also claims Asia convinced him to move to Georgia, which he believes was to be closer to Kelly, and that he struggled to find work there. He says he tried to save the marriage, but she eventually asked for a divorce. Bryant is seeking compensation for the loss of his spouse’s love, support and companionship, and for emotional and financial harm.
Kelly has denied the allegations. In his court response, he denied having a relationship with Asia and asked that the case be thrown out. None of Bryant’s claims have been proven in court.
