#MarshawnLynch made news early in the offseason when it was publicized that the newly retired #Seattle #Seahawks running back had not spent one dime of his #NFL earnings. #Beastmode was able to save well over $50 million! Lynch’s financial success story was a far cry from the cautionary tales (and absolute truths) told of players becoming financially destitute after leaving the league. His financial acumen changed the trajectory of players and how they handle their finances.
With such an astounding nest egg assembled, those financially curious wondered “how does one accomplish such a feat?” According to rapper #MistahFAB, Beastmode’s first cousin, Lynch is “cheap”.
While out promoting his project, #SonOfPimp2, FAB stopped by #XXL’s #AnteUp podcast and gave a little insight on Lynch’s frugalness.
“He lives like he’s broke He still lives like, ‘Cuz, let me get $10.’ ‘Oooh, $10? Cuz, I don’t know. I don’t got it right now. How much is them? Oooh, $40? No, let me get the $15 ones.’ Like, that’s how he is. You’ll be like, ‘Bro, are you serious?’ Like, we’ll go out to eat or go somewhere and he’ll be like, ‘How much is the whomp whomp? Oooh, hell no! $60? Oh no, no. Let me get the $25 one right there, though, the one on the side of it. Yup, that one’s good!’ I’m like, ‘Cuz, you are a cheap ass hoe, bro.’ That’s just how he is. You learn to love him.”
FAB noted that Beastmode’s spending habits have had a positive effect on him as well, stating Lynch has showed them how to keep things going. “He is a symbol of hope for us”.
While some may never acquire the contract Lynch has, it is very possible to acquire the wealth and his financial smarts. The old saying “Just because you have it does not mean you have to spend it” rings true through out Lynch’s situation. A man that is clearly financially free is still very cautious with his spending. No it doesn’t mean he has never indulged, it means he isn’t recklessly spending all the time. Loaning money freely, Eating expensive meals regularly and casually spending can and will add up.
I’ve been the individual who has blew through a few stacks in a month eating out. And no, when you spend it it doesn’t hurt you then, but continually having bad habits will ruin you. I had to look at what I wanted in the future and it wasn’t to continually pass my money into the toilet. I had to get on what I now refer to as the “Lynch Financial Plan”. (Back then it was just me budgeting and getting my financial life). Lynch has effortlessly demonstrated the importance of having multiple streams of income and financial responsibility.
