Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is not pleased with presidential hopeful Donald Trump meeting with fellow candidate Kanye West.
McConnell spoke to reporters following his meeting with President Joe Biden on Tuesday, expressing his disappointment with Trump for having with both West and his white supremacist campaign assistant, Nick Fuentes.
“There is no room in the Republican Party for antisemitism or white supremacy, and anyone meeting with people advocating that point of view, in my judgment, are highly unlikely to ever be elected president of the United States,” McConnell told the press.
These strong comments follow the odd encounter that took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida while hosting the pair. According to Donnie, he only planned to meet with West and was caught off guard when the rapper showed up with three other people that Trump “knew nothing about.” He claims he was unaware that Fuentes was a Holocaust denier whose YouTube channel was taken down following racist views. He claims the group had dinner, which was “quick and uneventful.” However, Ye doesn’t see it that way. In a now-deleted video shared to Twitter, the “Jesus Walks” star said the 76-year-old became irate during their meeting because West asked him to be his vice president, which contradicts Trump’s claims of a nice, quiet evening.
Former vice president Mike Pence also called out his former pal for giving the men a “seat at the table,” considering their heinous remarks. Pence believes Trump should denounce Ye and Fuentes, though that has yet to happen.
Both West and Trump are vying for the top spot in the 2024 election, which will likely test their longstanding “friendship.”
