During a recent sit-down on Way Up with Angela Yee, Mona Scott Young got pretty candid on a few things, notably the incident between Spice and Erica Mena.
When the interview switched to the conversation of Love and Hip Hop, Mona Scott talked about being the person people call out when things go wrong on the show.
“Listen, it has been 13 years, that machine is self-sustaining. You know what I’m saying. I’m not in the field and I know it’s hard for people to understand that,” Scott said, adding that people are going to have their narratives on situations and believe what they’re going to believe.
“…..I’m not about to sit there like this… going back and forth,” she said while doing her fingers in a typing motion.
Scott also says she sees the show on the same basis as the public because she’s not on the field anymore.
Many people called Scott, who is the show’s producer, out after the taping aired. But she assures she’s no longer involved in certain aspects of the show.
Regardless of her stance on the controversy of Erica Mena calling Spice a “monkey,” Scott said she hopes the incident rides out and corrects itself, adding that she believes the network saw the Erica and Spice incident as a teachable moment.
She then goes on to say that there is a group of Black women on the ground making the show.
“I’m not day-to-day on the franchise anymore. I’m making movies now, “Love and Murder”…….”Atlanta Playboy”…. I’m doing scripted, making movies… expanding you know. Created a platform, created an opportunity, right? Put it in the hands of folks, shout out to Lashawn Browning, Antoinette Media, and Donna Edge Rochell. There is a team, you know, of Black women doing this show. “
At the end of the day.Scott says she sees why people heavily associated her with the show, but she has moved on.
