The president of Clark Atlanta University has apologized for not being able to offer housing for several students.

This weekend, about 500 students arrived to move into their dorms, only to discover that there wasn’t enough room.

In a statement to students on Sunday, President George T. French, Jr. said he accepts full responsibility for the matter and begs forgiveness.

French said in a statement, “It is indefensible. As the ‘buck stops’ with me, I prefer to acknowledge this dereliction and ask your forgiveness rather than making excuses.”

According to French, renovations to around 20% of the university’s dorms are behind schedule, leaving 464 students without a place to live.

Students who are affected will receive a “full 50% discount refund of the entire current semester room fee.”

According to French, students will be housed at nearby hotels until the dorms are completed.

According to French, construction crews are working around the clock to finish the modifications, but he did not provide an estimated completion date.

“Again, we cannot apologize enough for this unfortunate incident. Please know that we remain diligent in addressing the issues that caused this challenge,” French said.
