A Facebook post is getting attention online after a man named Dante claimed that actor Morris Chestnut is his father and that the two have been estranged for most of his life.
Chestnut has been married since 1995 and often talks about his two children, Paige and Grant. He has not publicly acknowledged Dante, and he had not responded to the claims at the time of this post. Baller Alert could not independently confirm the relationship Dante describes.
According to his own Facebook post, Dante says he is around 27 years old and that Chestnut was a present father until his career took off with the 1991 film Boyz N The Hood. Dante wrote that after the film brought Chestnut fame, he started a new life with a new family and Dante lost contact with him.
In the lengthy post, Dante wrote that he shares a middle and last name with Chestnut and grew up believing Chestnut was his father. He said he lived with Chestnut and his mother until the movie came out, and that he recalls seeing his father only on screens after that. He also wrote that watching Chestnut play a father in the film Like Mike was painful for him, and that the situation has taken an emotional toll on him for years.
Dante also shared that he was hurt when he was shot and felt his claimed father did not show real concern. The post was angry and raw, and Dante said he was venting.
Dante has reportedly posted about Chestnut on Facebook for years, including baby photos that he says show a young Chestnut with him. Those claims have not been verified, and nothing in his post has been confirmed by Chestnut or his representatives.
Whatever the truth turns out to be, this is a painful family story playing out in public. We will update if Chestnut or his team responds.
