The ongoing federal investigation into R. Kelly’s sexual assault trial will be wrapping up within the next few weeks, with a good chance the singer will be facing indictments in both New York and Illinois.
Sources close to the investigation say witness testimony will be presented in front of the grand juries in both the Southern District of New York and the Northern District of Illinois. The charges mostly deal with sex trafficking and tax evasion.
According to The Blast, ICE Homeland Security Investigations officials have been specifically interested in how Kelly and his team were allegedly able to purchase plane tickets for underage girls and transport them around the country while he was performing. ICE is responsible for investigating crimes of human trafficking, sex trafficking, and child exploitation.
In March, multiple interviews were conducted in Georgia with additional victims and witnesses; one of which included Kelly’s ex-stylist and another involving a new accuser who claims she was a victim of sexual abuse by Kelly and also witnessed sexual abuse of other women.
The family of Kelly’s girlfriend Joycelyn Savage met with investigators and provided information as well as physical evidence, including plane tickets, text messages, and photos. The evidence provided by the family heavily contributed to the federal case against Kelly.
