Tennis star Naomi Osaka has officially withdrawn from the Melbourne warm-up tournament after suffering an abdominal injury.

Naomi shared the news of her departure on Twitter saying her body went into “shock” after playing back to back.

“Sad to withdraw due to injury from my match today, my body got a shock from playing back to back intense matches after the break I took. Thank you for all the love this past week. I’ll try to rest you and see you soon.”

Naomi has been struggling since she withdrew from the French Open in May, claiming the required media appearances impacted her negatively.

Naomi returned to the sport back in November after she stepped away again in September after an emotional loss.

The four-time Grand Slam champion was set to go head to head with Veronika Kudermetova but was halted due to Naomi’s rehabilitation process.

Naomi will still be competing in the Australian Open beginning on January 17th.
