NASCAR driver Kurt Busch is under investigation by police in Dover, Delaware after his ex girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, accused him of domestic assault. Busch, through his attorney, denies the allegation.
According to court documents reported by USA Today, Driscoll claims the incident happened Sept. 26 inside Busch’s motorhome at Dover International Speedway, after a disappointing qualifying run. Driscoll alleges that Busch was verbally abusive, then grabbed her face and struck her head against a wall three times. She says she pushed him away, left the bedroom and took refuge in a neighboring motorhome, and that she suffered neck bruising, severe pain and trouble breathing. The documents were filed Wednesday, and a hearing is set for Dec. 2.
Busch’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, said Busch denies the allegations in every respect and called them “a complete fabrication.” Hardin said Busch plans to cooperate with police and expects to be cleared. Dover police confirmed they are investigating a domestic assault report made Nov. 5 and said they would not comment further. As of this report, police were still investigating.
NASCAR said it is aware of the investigation and is gathering information. Stewart-Haas Racing said it takes the allegation very seriously and is still learning the facts.
Driscoll reportedly said she waited to file because she was in a custody dispute with her ex husband over their son.
