The National Urban League says six civil rights and voter engagement organizations have joined forces to launch National Black Man Voter Day, a new national effort centered on Black voter mobilization ahead of the 2026 election. The initiative brings together the National Urban League, NAACP, 100 Black Men of America, Black Men Vote, Woke Vote, and State of the People with a goal of mobilizing 100,000 Black men around Saturday, October 24.

National Black Man Voter Day is designed to do more than encourage people to show up at the polls. According to the National Urban League, participating organizations plan to combine their national resources with local chapters, campuses, churches, community groups, and organizers to provide accurate information about registration, voting procedures, early voting, and other election requirements. The campaign also intends to help voters develop a plan for participating based on the rules in their own states.
National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said the campaign is focused on reaching Black men through institutions and relationships that already have trust within their communities.
“National Black Man Voter Day is about meeting Black men where they are, through the trusted institutions and relationships that shape everyday life, and ensuring they have the information, resources, and support they need to make their voices heard,” Morial said. “When organizations with deep roots in our communities come together around a shared purpose, we can expand participation, strengthen civic engagement, and help ensure that every eligible voter has an opportunity to take part in our democracy.”
The October 24 date will not function the same way in every state. The NAACP says the coalition will concentrate its voting activities in states and communities where early in-person voting is available that Saturday. In places where regular early voting is not offered on October 24, organizers plan to focus on voter education and other forms of lawful civic engagement. Election rules, identification requirements, registration deadlines, and absentee voting procedures can vary significantly by state.
Dr. Wes Bellamy, National Public Policy Chairman and Director of Operations on the National Executive Committee for 100 Black Men of America, said the collaboration is intended to build something that extends beyond one election.
“This is a partnership built on shared purpose,” Bellamy said. “Our organizations have each been engaged in civic work in communities across this country. National Black Man Voter Day gives us an opportunity to bring those networks together, share resources and build an infrastructure for sustained civic engagement.”
NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson connected that Black voter mobilization effort to the everyday concerns shaping how people view government and public policy.
“Voting is one of the most powerful tools we have to shape our futures. But that power only matters when people actually use it. Black men are tired of being burned by a system that was never designed for us. Groceries and gas prices are up, and providing for a family is harder than ever. That’s why voting matters. We get a say in which policies affect our daily lives. Because every vote by us is a vote for us. And those votes get us one step closer to a government that works for Black men, Black families, and all of America.”
Much of the campaign’s strategy will happen away from traditional political spaces. According to the coalition announcement, organizers plan to conduct outreach through churches, fraternities, civic organizations, barbershops, colleges, wellness and running groups, educators, coaches, and other community networks. Transportation assistance and voter education are also included in the field strategy.
Mike Bland of Black Men Vote said that community-level organizing is central to what National Black Man Voter Day is trying to accomplish.
“This has to be bigger than a moment or a social media campaign. The work is on the ground — in our neighborhoods, union halls, boardrooms, barbershops, churches, campuses and communities — making sure Black men have accurate information, a plan to vote and the support they need to participate. October 24 gives us a national date to organize around. Our success will be measured beyond the one day; it is in the relationships we build, people we organize, and infrastructure we leave behind to keep Black men informed, connected, and engaged beyond a single election.”
The initiative also has a digital component. Coalition partners plan to use the hashtag #ThisBlackManVotes to feature stories of civic participation and share information about events connected to the campaign. The official National Black Man Voter Day website is also directing visitors to state-specific information, including registration and early voting deadlines.
The campaign arrives ahead of the next regularly scheduled federal general election on November 3, 2026, according to the Federal Election Commission. For additional context, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that 65.3 percent of the citizen voting-age population voted in the 2024 presidential election. Among men overall, the reported voting rate was 63.7 percent, compared with 66.9 percent among women. Those figures cover the national electorate rather than Black men specifically, but they provide broader context for organizations investing in voter participation and outreach ahead of 2026.
For the coalition behind National Black Man Voter Day, October 24 is intended to serve as both a coordinated day of activity and part of a longer Black voter mobilization effort. The participating organizations say their broader goal is to keep Black men informed about the voting process, connected to trusted community resources, and engaged in civic participation beyond a single election cycle.
