NBCUniversal has hired an outside investigator to look into former vice chairman Ron Meyer’s relationship with actress Charlotte Kirk, a company spokesperson confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the probe.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the investigation aims to determine whether any company money or resources were used to facilitate the relationship or any cover up of it.
Meyer left NBCUniversal on Aug. 18. In a statement that day, he said he had made a settlement under threat with a woman who he claimed made false accusations against him. He described the relationship as “a very brief and consensual affair” that happened many years ago. He also said other parties learned of the settlement and tried to extort him, threatening to falsely implicate NBCUniversal, which he said had nothing to do with the matter. TheWrap reported that a third party was trying to extort Meyer and that the settlement amount was undisclosed.
The woman was later identified by outlets as Kirk. Her attorney, Raymond Markovich, declined to comment. Her manager, Shannon Pierce, told Fox News that the story did not merit coverage and said Meyer deserves better than to have his business discussed in the media. Kirk has not made a public statement of her own.
No findings from the investigation have been made public.
