The Tory Lanez divorce proceedings are no longer moving forward after a Los Angeles judge dismissed Raina Chassagne’s case. Court documents obtained by the outlet show the judge cited a lack of movement toward a final judgment since the case was filed. Chassagne originally sought to end the marriage in June 2024, but the dismissal means the case she opened more than two years ago is now closed.
The marriage itself was brief before Chassagne filed. Chassagne and Lanez legally married on June 25, 2023. Court documents listed June 1, 2024, as their date of separation, meaning the couple separated less than one year after getting married. Chassagne cited irreconcilable differences when she filed and requested legal and physical custody of their son, Kai’lon.
The timing of the marriage placed a major portion of their relationship alongside Lanez’s criminal case. The couple married after Lanez had already been convicted in December 2022 but before he received his prison sentence. Chassagne also supported Lanez during the sentencing process and advocated for a lesser punishment. Roughly six weeks after their wedding, Lanez was sentenced in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, received a 10-year state prison sentence in August 2023. A Los Angeles jury had convicted him in December 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence in connection with the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
The divorce filing therefore came while Lanez was already incarcerated. Chassagne sought custody of their son but did not initially request spousal support, although she reserved the right for the issue to be addressed later. Her June 2024 filing appeared to establish a formal legal separation from a marriage that had begun shortly before Lanez entered state prison.
Despite the divorce filing, Chassagne continued facilitating a relationship between Lanez and their son. TMZ reported that she took Kai’lon to visit his father in prison. The outlet also noted that Chassagne later shared throwback images of Lanez and their son for Father’s Day. Those interactions continued after the Tory Lanez divorce case had been filed, although TMZ’s latest report did not state that Lanez and Chassagne had reconciled.
Lanez has also continued challenging his criminal conviction while incarcerated. California’s Second District Court of Appeal rejected his challenge in November 2025. The California Supreme Court then declined to review his case on February 25, 2026. That decision left the conviction and 10-year sentence in place. Lanez remains incarcerated while the marriage that Chassagne attempted to dissolve remains legally intact following the dismissal of her divorce case.
The latest development changes the legal status of the Tory Lanez divorce but does not erase the history surrounding the filing. Chassagne married Lanez after his conviction, stood by him during sentencing, filed for divorce less than a year after the wedding, and continued helping their son maintain contact with him during his incarceration. Now, after more than two years without enough progress toward a final divorce judgment, the court has dismissed the case.
For Lanez, the criminal consequences remain unchanged. He remains behind bars as the divorce case closes. For Chassagne and Lanez, the dismissal means the marriage continues legally unless another action is taken through the courts.
