Nelly and Ashanti have been married for six months! According to court docs, the couple quietly got married on December 27, 2023, in Nelly’s hometown of St. Louis County, Missouri. The couple had previously announced their engagement and Ashanti’s pregnancy with their first child but had kept their wedding a secret. TMZ first broke the news of their marriage.
Earlier this week, Ashanti discussed the proposal and her dream wedding ideas with Entertainment Tonight.
Ashanti described the proposal as a “beautiful, intimate moment” at home, noting that she was not expecting it at all and was wearing one of Nelly’s T-shirts and boxers at the time.
The “Happy” singer also mentioned that they plan to welcome their baby before having a big wedding celebration with family and friends. She envisions a ceremony with a beach, sunshine, and palm trees—essential elements for their special day.
In May, Ashanti celebrated her first Mother’s Day as an expecting mother, sharing photos on Instagram where she posed with Nelly and other family members, proudly showing off her baby bump.
The couple initially began dating in the early 2000s but broke up in 2013. They rekindled their relationship in 2023 after a decade apart, announcing their engagement and pregnancy almost a year later. Nelly expressed his surprise at their renewed romance on the “Boss Moves with Rasheeda” show streaming on Philo in September, saying, “I think it surprised both of us.”
