Nelly is fighting back in court. According to TMZ, the rapper filed a countersuit on Friday in Seattle against Monique, the woman who accused him of rape in a lawsuit last year. Nelly has denied the accusation.
In the filing, as reported by TMZ, Nelly says Monique came to his section at the club and began flirting with him. He says he invited her back to his tour bus, where he claims their encounter was consensual.
Nelly says things changed when a member of his touring group walked into the room. He claims Monique became aggressive and disruptive, and that when he asked her to leave the bus, she called police and told them he assaulted her.
The rapper alleges the claims were a malicious attempt to get him arrested, and that they have hurt his reputation and cost him money, including a canceled show in Washington. His lawyers told Pitchfork that he is not looking for money and expects an apology.
Nelly has also asked a judge to toss Monique’s defamation claims and strike her allegations involving two other women. A response from Monique to the countersuit was not included in the early reports. Everything described here comes from court filings and statements, and none of it has been proven.
