A legal back and forth in Nelly’s sexual assault case took a new turn in April 2018. According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Monique, the woman suing the rapper over allegations of sexual assault, is asking his girlfriend Shantel Jackson to hand over records. Nelly has denied the allegations.
Back in January, Shantel spoke out publicly. She wrote that the accusers were not telling the truth because she said she was present at the venues, dressing rooms and tour bus on the dates in question. She also said false claims make things harder for people dealing with real experiences of sexual assault.
Monique’s side sees it differently. At the time, she accused Shantel of backing up Nelly’s alibi to further what she called a defamation campaign against her. Now her legal team wants proof.
The Blast reported that Monique is asking for photographs, receipts, social media posts, travel tickets, phone records and other documents showing where Shantel was on June 8, 9 and 10, 2016, October 5, 6 and 7, 2017, and December 4, 5 and 6, 2017. She also wants Shantel’s deposition to be videotaped.
The requests do not stop there. Monique is also seeking documents from Nelly, including tax returns, the names of any witnesses who may have been around at the time of the alleged incidents, and records related to the allegations.
Nelly has already filed an objection to the request for documents. The Blast reported that his side argues the demands are overly broad and could threaten the privacy of him and his business associates. A judge had not yet ruled on the objection at the time of the report.
