A New Mexico case is raising serious questions about bail. According to local reports, a man named Raymond, age 29, was released on bond twice by the same judge before being taken into custody a third time following a statewide chase. He is accused of multiple sex crimes involving children. These are allegations, and he has not been convicted.
Reports say Raymond was first taken into custody on January 15 and Judge Ernest Ortega released him on a $10,000 bond. About two days later, while wearing an ankle monitor, he was arrested again on a new allegation. Police brought him back to court and the same judge released him on a $20,000 bond.
Days after posting that bond, authorities say he was accused of another assault and ran. He was arrested Sunday night in Colorado.
A neighbor, Gloria Lucero, told KOB 4 she hopes he stays behind bars. The district attorney said he wanted an indictment before the man’s next court appearance on Thursday, and Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe told a local outlet he believes there may be more victims authorities do not know about yet.
Baller Alert was unable to find a response from the accused or his attorney at the time of this report.
