A New Orleans girl was shot and killed while riding in a car with her mother and sibling.

This past Sunday, at around 8:45 p.m., 7-year-old Dillan Burton was riding in the backseat of her mother’s car when she was shot driving through an intersection, according to police, Fox News reports. Dillan’s sibling was also in the car with her; they were not injured.

The mother immediately called the police and rushed her to the hospital where she died, the news outlet reports per NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson. For now, police have yet to uncover a motive during their investigation, and no arrests have been made.

In a statement, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said the child’s death was “unbearably tragic.”

“We stand in shock over the violence that claimed the life of a 7 year-old child, the day after Christmas,” Cantrell wrote in a statement that was posted to Twitter as an image with a tweet. “As a City, as a community – we reject this. How often have we said ‘one is too many?’ This one, alone, is too much. This child deserved better of us. Somebody out there knows who pulled the trigger. We need them to come forward.”
