A New York City H&M store has been temporarily shut down due to an employee publicly sharing that a few clothing items were bug-infested.

On Wednesday, an H&M employee shared the disturbing photos as well as her disappointment of how the company was handling the situation. The employee says staff was not notified about the situation and the store did not close down. Instead, the section where the bug-infested clothing was located, was blocked off.

“I work at the H&M in the Oculus at World Trade & today a customer discovered lice on a rack of hoodies. They’re not closing the store nor are they notifying employees of the problem. The section was just blocked off.”

H&M caught wind of the viral tweet a few hours later and made a statement reportedly saying, “Out of an abundance of caution we have closed the H&M store at Westfield World Trade Center in order to investigate fully.”

As for the employee, she stated that she will be resigning from her position and apologized to the store manager for the massive buzz her tweet created. She also says she does not blame the manager but H&M for how the situation was handled.

I apologized to my store manager because I did not expect my tweet to go up like this. I was just annoyed that it was being treated like a minor issue & it wasn’t his fault. It’s the company.

My coworkers thanked me 🤍

It is unclear how the bugs got on the clothes but the store will remain temporarily closed while the investigation continues.
