Gray Television is short-staffed after several employees, including TV anchors and meteorologists, quit or were fired for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Last Thursday, Meggan Gray quit her co-hosting role on WLOX-TV’s “Good Morning Mississippi” just one day before the company’s vaccine mandate took effect. Gray Television, which is the parent company to WLOX-TV, required that all employees, contractors, guests, and tenants be fully vaccinated by October 1st. The 18-year employee says she offered to be tested for the virus weekly as an alternative to being vaccinated, but her employer refused.
Hastings, Nebraska meteorologist Tim Jones, also employed at a station under Gray Television, revealed that he was fired from his eight-year position after refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Sports anchor Dave Platta, with an ABC affiliate in Columbus, Georgia, was terminated after 36-years on his job. The company fired reporter Linda Simmons in Springfield, Missouri, and meteorologist Karl Bohnak in Marquette, Michigan.
Each employee expressed their reasons for not wanting to receive the shot. Bohnak wrote on Facebook that he did not trust the vaccines and was unwilling to risk “serious side effects” that may occur.
Gray Television stated that its vaccination policy was put in place to provide a safe work environment. However, they did confirm that exceptions were made for “certain medical conditions and or religious objections.”
