The NFL is determined to punish EzekielElliott for his alleged involvement in a 2016 domestic violence incident. After implementing a 6-game suspension and subsequently having its decision blocked by a federal judge, the NFL has filed an appeal of the judge’s decision.
With an appeal, the league can attempt to enforce the running back’s 6-game suspension sooner than later. Previously, it was reported that Zeke’s preliminary injunction request against the league’s decision would allow him to play the entire season, as the legal battle plays out. But now, according to TMZ, with the appeal, and additional filings, the league gets a chance to prove the federal judge got it wrong.
After Elliott speaks on his behalf, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals would rule on the appeal. If the court rules in favor of the league, Elliott’s suspension could be enforced as soon as possible. However, according to reports, the court has a very low reversal rate. As a result, the league has also filed an emergency stay of the judge’s decision. If the federal judge were to overturn his own decision, Elliott’s suspension would be enforced immediately.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, if the judge denies the league’s request, the case would go to the Fifth Circuit. Ultimately, the process is expected to take a few months, so Cowboys fans don’t have much to worry about, for now.
