Nicki Minaj sat down with White House Communications Director Steven Cheung for an interview about Donald Trump, the economy and the midterms, and Cheung followed it up by saying she could be the next White House press secretary.
Video:
Cheung posted the video on X on Sunday with the caption, “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Nicki reposted it with an American flag and a nervous smiling emoji.
In the clip, the two sit across from each other at a table on a plane as Cheung asks the questions. He opened with the economy, asking what she thinks it will be like under Trump.
“Well, it’s boring because we have a president that understands economics, first of all,” Nicki said. “You know, I said before that the president is naturally a businessman. He’s worked his way out of, you know, not having a dollar dollar. So if he can do that with himself, with his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country.”
She also praised his approach overseas. “He’s very tough. He’s tough internationally. He tells them what we need, not what they need,” she said. “We’re not going to be paying to kiss their [expletive], okay? They are going to pay us to be affiliated with the United States.”
Cheung then pointed to Trump crisscrossing the country for rallies and asked if anyone works harder on the campaign trail. “Absolutely not,” Nicki answered. “You have a man who’s won three elections.”
Trump has won two presidential elections, in 2016 and 2024. He lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.
Nicki went on to say that Trump “wakes up at 4 o’clock in the morning” and could take it easy for the rest of his term but chooses not to. “He can kick his feet up and just chill out for the rest of his presidency. But no, he’s paying it forward. He’s thinking about the other Republicans that have to win during these elections,” she said. “And so that tells me that he’s the great guy.”
For his last question, Cheung asked what her message is to Americans looking at “fake news posts” every day. Nicki brought up Hillary Clinton.
“Well, let’s ask Hillary Clinton how the fake polls are. We don’t pay those polls any mind,” she said. “Obviously, they are there to deter our voters from going out and casting their vote. We conservatives, we are winning, and we need not let anything stand in our way of taking it all away, bringing it all the way home to the bank.”
The interview comes as the White House press secretary job sits open. Katie Zacharia held the position for just five days, and Nicki’s name has come up ever since, from a Jimmy Fallon sketch on The Tonight Show to a conversation on The View.
Nicki has been vocal in her support of Trump. In January, she appeared with him at a Treasury Department event promoting his administration’s investment accounts for children, where she called herself “probably the president’s number one fan” and pledged money toward the accounts.
