Nivea is spilling the tea on her past relationship with Lil Wayne, who convinced her to quit music only to break her heart shortly after.
It is no secret that the mothers of Wayne’s children all share a close bond. But during a recent interview for On That Note with Kandi Burruss, the “Complicated” vocalist revealed that things were not always harmonious. In fact, she revealed that Wayne told her to walk away from her career and instead be a stay-at-home girlfriend. The arrangement was short-lived when she found that he had secretly gotten back together with Antonia “Toya” Johnson (also known as Toya Wright).
“He said, ‘Come be with me. I got you,'” she explained. Nivea said this conversation led her to send a letter to her label informing them that she was leaving music. From there, the “retired” singer says she was living with Wayne being a “housewife” until he finessed her into moving out of the home so that he could move Toya back in, ultimately marrying her.
However, Nivea overcame the heartbreak and went on to marry music producer, The Dream. Once their relationship ended in 2007, she reunited with Wayne and had a son, Neal.
During the candid interview, the 39-year-old also opened up about the past cocaine addiction that nearly consumed her.
“I never thought I would get over it. I never thought I would come out of it. I’m so grateful to God. I thought it was going to consume me, and I was going to lose my babies.”
Thankfully, Nivea has overcome the adversity in her life and continues to thrive.
