Noah Lyles claimed the title of the fastest man in the world with a thrilling victory in the 100 meters at the Paris Olympics. Lyles clocked in at a blazing 9.79 seconds, narrowly beating Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson by just 0.005 seconds. This close finish secured Lyles the gold medal, while Thompson, despite being a favorite after dominating the qualifying rounds, took silver with a time of 9.80 seconds.
Fellow American Fred Kerley earned the bronze, finishing just behind in 9.81 seconds. This marks the first time since 2004 that two Americans have stood on the podium for the 100 meters, breaking the long-standing Jamaican dominance led by Usain Bolt.
Lyles had an impressive journey to the final. Although he faced some challenges in the heats and semifinals, where he struggled with a slow start, he ultimately pulled through with a strong finish. His victory in Paris not only set a personal best but also solidified his reputation after winning the 100 meters at the World Championships the previous year.
Lyles’ win in the 100 meters is just the beginning of his Olympic campaign, as he aims for a double gold with the 200 meters and possibly a third gold in the 4×100 meter relay. The 200-meter heats begin on Monday, with the final set for August 8th. Lyles is also a strong contender for the relay, scheduled for August 9th.
