Early Thursday, the New York Post‘s website and Twitter were plastered with a dozen violent, racist and misogynist headlines aimed at several national leaders.

The New York Post has been hacked. We are currently investigating the cause.

“Zeldin: Eric Adams is NYC’s fried chicken eating monkey,” read one such headline, while another called for the assassination of Ocasio-Cortez. A separate headline posed as conservative columnist Miranda Devine calling for the killing of Hunter and Joe Biden.

The Post initially claimed it had been hacked, but following an investigation, the publication discovered it was actually an inside job, and its site and Twitter had been hijacked by a rogue employee.

“The New York Post’s investigation indicates the unauthorized conduct was committed by an employee, and we are taking appropriate action,” the paper said in a statement. “We immediately removed the vile and reprehensible content from our website and social media accounts.”

While the publication did not identify the employee, a spokesperson confirmed that the person was terminated.
