New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that city residents would receive $100 to get their COVID-19 shot.
Beginning Friday, getting your first dose at any city-run vaccination site will earn you $100. According to Rachel Loeb, President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the incentive will provide the money on a prepaid debit card. The card is immediately eligible for digital use, or residents can opt to receive a physical debit card.
This is the latest incentive to get New Yorkers vaccinated. De Blasio believes it will make a “big impact” in getting shots into arms.
“We wanted to supercharge it by saying we’ll give you extra, direct personal incentive to get this done now,” the mayor said.
The incentive comes on the heels of de Blasio’s announcement Monday that city employees will either need to be fully vaccinated or receive regular coronavirus testing.
According to Health Department data, about 54 percent of residents are fully vaccinated, and New Yorkers have received almost 10 million doses to date.
