Two women have publicly accused Louisville police officer Brett Hankison of sexual misconduct, and Louisville Metro Police say they are looking into the claims. Hankison is one of the officers who fired shots during the March 13 raid that killed Breonna Taylor, a 26 year old EMT. The allegations are unproven, and no one has been charged.
The women, Margo and Emily, went public on social media last week. Margo wrote on Facebook that in April 2018 an officer she knew from bars in St. Matthews offered her a ride home in his marked car and sexually assaulted her inside her apartment while she was unconscious. She named Hankison and said she never reported it because she feared retaliation. Her statement was issued through her attorney, Sam Aguiar, who also represents Breonna Taylor’s family.
Emily wrote on Instagram that an officer offered her a ride after she left a bar intoxicated and then made unwanted advances. She said she got out of the car and ran as soon as it reached her building, and that a friend reported the incident the next day. She said nothing came of it.
LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell told PEOPLE that the department followed up with the women so its Public Integrity Unit could start an investigation. Hankison and his attorneys had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
Hankison, along with Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly and Officer Myles Cosgrove, was placed on administrative leave after Taylor’s death. As of this report, none of the three had been criminally charged in her shooting, and protesters continued to call for accountability in her case.
