Offset’s legal battle over a marijuana dispensary fight is heating up as the rapper pushes back against allegations that he assaulted a security guard during a tense encounter in Los Angeles.
The dispute stems from a lawsuit filed by security guard Jim Sanchez, who claims Offset and members of his entourage visited the MedMen LAX dispensary in March of last year while Sanchez was on duty. According to the complaint, Sanchez asked the rapper for identification before being punched in the face. He further alleges that members of Offset’s crew joined in the attack, leaving him injured badly enough to require hospital treatment. Sanchez is now seeking punitive, general, and special damages totaling more than $25,000.
Offset, however, is denying all accusations and says the story did not happen the way Sanchez described it. In newly reported court filings, the former Migos star claims Sanchez was the one who escalated the confrontation after allegedly spitting on him. Offset is asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit entirely and award him legal costs.
His legal response also argues that Sanchez should not receive damages because “[a]t least some of the acts complained of by [Sanchez] were provoked by his wrongful conduct.” Offset additionally maintains that “[Sanchez] was at fault in how he conducted himself.”
The civil lawsuit is not the only issue tied to the incident. Offset is also facing a misdemeanor charge connected to the same altercation. He has pleaded not guilty and was scheduled for a court hearing on April 29.
Outside the courtroom, Offset recently dealt with another serious situation after being shot earlier this month outside a Florida casino. Reports stated that his injuries were not life-threatening, and he appears to be recovering.
Speaking last week with Creators Inc., the rapper shared his mindset after the scare. “Got to keep pushing,” he explained. “Gladiator mentality, man. The show don’t ever stop at the end of the day. I was blessed enough to be able to still move. So I’m still moving.”
