The “Rap Sh!t” reign has come to an end at Max.
On Thursday, it was announced that the popular series created by Issa Rae was being canceled. The comedy, which recently wrapped up its second season, follows the story of Shawna, played by Aida Osman, and Mia, portrayed by real-life rapper KaMillion, as they reunite to form a hip-hop duo. Syreeta Singleton served as showrunner on the show, which was executive-produced by Issa Rae, with the City Girls serving as co-executive producers, along with Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi and Jax Clark for Hoorae, Variety lists. With such a promising cast and production staff, it seemed that “Rap Sh!t” would be around for seasons to come. Sadly, that isn’t the case.
“I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writer, and crew that made this show possible,” Rae shared in a statement to Variety. “Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls.”
Max also issued a statement confirming the news, calling “Rap Sh!t” a “one-of-a-kind comedy.”
The cancelation of the show is extremely disappointing, considering how season two of “Rap Sh!t” ended. In the December 2023 finale, Shawna and Mia were not on good terms with Chastity, played by Jonica Booth. In turn, Chastity met with rapper Gat, portrayed by Patrick Cage II, who was online beefing with Shawna. Therefore, fans will never get to see how this rift plays out.
