An Ohio woman has been convicted of robbery after her boyfriend told police she tied him up and stole from him, the Newark Advocate reports.
The 38 year old woman was found guilty of second degree robbery in connection with an incident at the man’s home in Newark, Ohio, in November 2019.
According to the Newark Advocate, the boyfriend told police he invited her over after the two had been dating for only a few months, and he expected the evening to be a romantic one. A criminal complaint described what happened next. “She tied him up to the futon in the bedroom, allegedly to have sex, and then, once she had him tied up, stole three firearms and his cellphone, which also held his bank card,” the complaint stated.
The man told police he stayed tied up for about 45 minutes before he got free by using a lighter to burn through the rope. He later said his bank informed him that his card was being used at several different locations. Police reportedly traced the card activity back to her.
She was first charged with first degree felony kidnapping, but that charge was dismissed. After the robbery conviction, she was sentenced to three years of probation on Thursday, according to the Newark Advocate.
