Oklahoma City Thunder guard DeAndre Liggins was arrested over the weekend after his girlfriend told police he attacked her at their Oklahoma home. As of Wednesday, September 4, 2013, no charges had been filed.
According to a probable cause affidavit reported by local news outlets, the woman, Jasmine, told police that Liggins punched and hit her, pushed her down, and dropped a fan and an Xbox on her head. She said she locked herself in a bedroom with their 2 year old son, and that Liggins kicked in the door. The affidavit says the child was in the room during the incident.
Liggins was booked on suspicion of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse in the presence of a minor. He was released after posting $8,000 bail.
Liggins’s attorney did not return calls from reporters, and no statement from the player has been reported. Thunder general manager Sam Presti acknowledged that the allegations were serious but declined to comment until more information became available.
These are allegations only. Liggins had not been charged at the time of this report, and we will pass along any updates from police or the team.
